Students in Mike Wierzbicki’s science classes get hands-on lessons about the chemical properties of hot peppers and ecosystems in the school’s vegetable garden. His lessons are part of the Johns Hopkins University Center for a Livable Future’s “FoodSpan” curriculum, a free lesson plan available for teachers across the country designed to teach students about food systems.
